Designed as a companion to the popular Essentials of Plastic Surgery, this is a compact and portable paperback, also available as an ebook. It is divided into seven sections (102 chapters) to mirror exactly the layout of its parent book, providing the same comprehensive and up-to-date coverage of the entire plastic surgery syllabus.

Each chapter starts with a list of a dozen or so multiple choice questions (single best answer and extended matched questions), with clear emphasis on clinical relevance. The answer section follows, with the correct answer explained and the incorrect answers fully discussed. Usefully, the questions are repeated in the answer sections, to avoid the need for flicking back to the test page.

There is considerable detail in many of the discussions which is not included in the original parent textbook. As a result, the book will prove a useful adjunct for trainees seeking to build on their knowledge base in the approach to the FRCS (Plast) examination. It will undoubtedly also appeal as a reference text to many established plastic surgeons, particularly those involved in training.

However, as a revision aid, the book somewhat lacks the impact of the many diagrams, text-boxes and tables that have contributed to the popularity of the original. And those looking for rapid-fire Q+A exam technique practice might feel that the number of practice questions could usefully have been increased at the expense of some of the detail of the discussions.
